Website privacy notice

This notice covers this website (dassie.school). How the dassie platform handles children’s and families’ information is explained on our Privacy & security page and in your school’s agreement.

Last updated: 29 September 2026

Who we are

dassie is a product of Linxus, a South African company. For this website, Linxus is the “responsible party” under the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

Website analytics (no cookies)

We use Umami, an open-source analytics tool that we host ourselves. It helps us understand things like which pages are visited, where visitors come from (for example a search engine), the type of device and browser, and the country. We also count clicks on buttons and use of the interactive demos.

  • Umami does not use cookies and doesn’t track you across other websites.
  • We don’t collect your name or email address for analytics, and your IP address isn’t stored. Visit data is aggregated.
  • The analytics data stays on our own server. It isn’t sent to Google or any advertising network.

Because there are no tracking cookies, you won’t see a cookie banner. We may keep small preferences in your browser, such as whether you chose “school” or “parent” view. That setting never leaves your device.

Forms you send us

If you book a demo or use ask your school, we collect what you type in: for example your name, email address, phone number, school name and role, and your message. We use it only to respond to you and to follow up about dassie. For “ask your school”, we also count interest per school so we know which schools parents would like us to talk to.

We don’t sell your information, and we don’t add you to marketing lists you didn’t ask for.

Where it’s stored

This website and the information from its forms are hosted on our own server in South Africa (Amazon Web Services, Cape Town region, af-south-1). We use an email service to send you a confirmation and to notify our team about your request.

Sharing

We only share your information with service providers who help us run this website (hosting and email), under agreements that protect it, or where the law requires it.

How long we keep it

We keep form submissions for as long as we need them to deal with your enquiry and any relationship that follows, and then we delete them. You can ask us to delete them sooner.

Your rights under POPIA

You can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and object to us using it. You also have the right to complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa (inforegulator.org.za).
